Selective Collection

A pioneer in the civil construction sector, the project promotes the re-use of garbage coming from the company's construction sites, avoiding its placement in sanitary landfills or inadequate places and thus contamination of the soil and water tables. Developed in 2003, Selective Collection was responsible in 2004 for the recycling of 16 tons of material, five of which came from construction sites and 11 from the condominium where the company office was located, in Rio de Janeiro. The remainder was sold and the funds raised used for the acquisition of basic foodstuffs distributed to the project's volunteers, such as workers and porters, and supporting institutions. Self sustainable, the project also includes the holding of environmental awareness workshops and training, in addition to education of multiplying agents, who are trained to monitor the collection. For this project, Gafisa received the Selo Verde in 2003 from the Non Governmental Organization Reviverde, which recognizes the commitment of companies to environmental preservation.
